Peter Weller gives rousing lecture following ‘Robocop’ screening

Peter Weller hijacks Q&A at Hero Complex

Popcorn, Italian art, Phillip K. Dick and Michelangelo Antonioni were only a few of the things Peter Weller talked about following a screening of “Robocop” at the Hero Complex Film Festival last Saturday in Los Angeles.  And don’t even get him started on process trailers.

Geoff Boucher conducted his ever-growing Hero Complex Film Festival at the Regal LA Live Stadium, starting on May 18 and ending on the 21st.  On Saturday morning, the festival began its triple feature with Paul Verhoeven’s “Robocop,” followed by “A Clockwork Orange” and “SUPER.”Immediately after the film, “Robocop” star Peter Weller marched into the theater to join Boucher in an interview and Q&A.  The interview did not go the way Boucher intended, as he only got to ask a handful of questions while Weller lectured and ranted on everything that came to his mind.

Most know Weller as the star of “Robocop,” “Naked Lunch” and “The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension,” but Weller has also tried his hand at directing television shows like “House,” “Sons of Anarchy” and the upcoming A&E program “Longmire.”  Outside of film and television, Weller has received his Masters degree in Roman and Renaissance Art and is now completing his Ph.D. in Italian Renaissance art history.

Weller had just gotten off a plane from Dallas when he arrived and immediately talked about wanting popcorn – Weller loves the stuff – while one of his people was retrieving some for the 65 year-old actor.  After the popcorn was delivered, Weller hijacked the Q&A  from Boucher, much to the delight of the audience.  Much like his body of work and accomplishments, Weller’s topics of discussion were vast and varied, and he sounded more like he was delivering a lecture than speaking to a room full of fans. Weller seldom stayed seated, choosing to stand and walk back and forth in the auditorium, delivering profanity-laden lectures like a salty, bar room professor.
